Valve on Monday are planning to release, free of charge, Alien Swarm. A few years back Valve picked up some mod developers who have given us Left 4 Dead and Portal but now in their busy schedules they have found time to recreate this popular mod from UT2004...

Alien Swarm is a 4 player co-op survivor game ala Left for Dead, but don't expect zombies. It looks to be set in space stations reminiscent of Starcraft and you need to fight to way through gatherings of aliens to.. somewhere. The game is played from a birds-eye view and players can choose from a variety of weapons and equipment loadouts.

Alien Swarm is also being built and released on the most up-to-date source engine, and as usual Valve is giving us the Source source code completely free with this. The updated code offers 3rd person camera support, depth of field, improved dynamic shadows and more.

So on July 19th, i hope to see you standing by my side; facing hordes of zombies aliens.
